Bayern beat second-division Magdeburg 6-1 in the German Cup second round, with Michael Olise scoring twice while Harry Kane, fresh from winning the Ballon d'Or, stayed on the bench. Leverkusen came back from two goals down to beat Nürnberg 5-2. At the other end of the table of surprises, Kiel knocked out Hoffenheim on penalties and Dresden beat Schalke.
